Pump.Science (RIF)

Thesis

Pump.Science attempted to gamify longevity research by creating tradeable tokens tied to specific compounds being tested for lifespan extension. The $RIF token was one of two companion tokens (alongside $URO) that represented community interest in specific research outcomes. The concept was novel, turning scientific experiments into speculative markets where token prices would reflect community conviction about compound efficacy. The project suffered a catastrophic GitHub compromise that exposed private keys, fundamentally undermining trust in the platform's security. RIF trades at effectively $0, down 99%+ from ATH, with experiment status unknown following the security incident. This represents a cautionary tale about the intersection of DeFi security and science funding. The gamification model itself was new and attracted attention in the DeSci space, but the execution failure was severe. Security incidents in DeSci carry outsized reputational damage because the sector depends on trust. Researchers and patients need to believe their data, funds, and IP are safe. A private key exposure is the worst possible failure mode. Included for completeness and as a risk case study. The investment case is functionally zero at current levels. Any recovery would require a complete platform rebuild with audited security, which has not been announced.
